A normal wind power system for residential use has the capacity to produce electrical power of the magnitude of 50KW or less. These wind power systems are a boon to people who want to cut down or eliminate their dependency on the electricity obtained from a utility grid. This alternative source of energy is perfect for people living in remote locations who completely rely on diesel as their source of power. Wind is a free, clean and an inexhaustible source of fuel and domestic wind power systems come cheaper than you can imagine.

Wind As a Source Of Electricity – A small wind mill with a rotor diameter of around 2 meters or less can be installed easily on the top your residence. The blades will capture the kinetic energy of the wind and then transfer it to the rotor which when coupled with a turbine will produce electricity. Wind is fast becoming the cheapest source of electricity and experts predict that it will become the cheapest energy resource of all by 2020.

Wind Can Be Used For Water Pumping – Wind power has been used for the purpose of pumping water in residences through wells for several hundred years now. The size of the wind turbine required for this purpose will depend upon the average daily requirement of water, wind speed and the efficiency of the system.

For this purpose a medium size rotor is installed over a tower, which is erected on top of a well. The rotor thus coupled with a mechanical pumping device complete with pulleys and pipes will pump a considerable volume of water depending on the wind speed and the size of the blades. The water thus obtained can be used for a variety of purposes such as drinking water for animals and irrigation.

There are other favorable aspects of using wind as a source of energy:

* Energy through a wind power system can become a source of extra income. At times you will be producing more energy than required and the utility supply corporations will readily purchase that energy with the cost offsetting your monthly bills. So, for some months you can get by using electricity without having to pay for it.

* Wind is only fuel you will ever need for your wind turbine and besides all the cash you may save by not buying expensive fuels like diesel and petrol to run your contemporary generators, you will surely help in keeping your atmosphere clean of harmful gaseous emissions.

* People owning a few acres of land or an average size farm can couple wind and solar energy to get an optimum amount of output for everyday use.

Wind power systems are available in a variety of sizes and are easily installed. The only drawback of having a windmill installed at your residence is that it gets a little noisy at times but rest assured it is practically the best source of domestic power generation available today.
